Trek - Segafredo are ready for the Giro d'Italia, announcing their lineup with Mads Pedersen in the lead. After Giulio Ciccone was forced to miss the race due to a Covid-19 infection the American team's focus now lays on the Dane towards success.
Pedersen has won a stage at last year's Tour de France and then went on to win three different days at the Vuelta a Espana, alongside the points classification. He's now looking to take stage wins in all three Grand Tours consecutively, and the huge amount of mountainous stages has scared most sprinters away from the race. He sets off as the main favourite to win the points classification and obtaining a stage win should have a very high possibility.
Without Ciccone to fight for the overall classification the team will be fully focused in chasing stage wins outside of the Dane. He won't have a strong leadout present but the likes of Daan Hoole and Alex Kirsch will be doing the work on the flat days, whilst Otto Vergaerde is set to spend a few days at the head of he peloton controlling breakaways.
In the mountains the team's chances aren't the best, but the remaining four riders will try out their luck on the hilly days. Bauke Mollema also has the opportunity to reach the goal of winning a stage in every Grand Tour and will be the best card out of these; Toms Skujins, Natnael Tesfatsion and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier complete the lineup.
Trek - Segafredo for Giro d'Italia:
Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier, Daan Hoole, Alex Kirsch, Bauke Mollema, Mads Pedersen, Toms Skujins, Natnael Tesfatsion and Otto Vergaerde.
