Pim Ronhaar takes his first World Cup win in Dendermonde 🥇🤩👏👏 #CXWorldCup #cyclocross
Pim Ronhaar has announced himself as truly having arrived in the upper echelons of cyclocross with a brilliant, first World Cup victory of the season in Dendermonde on Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old kept relatively quiet early on before surging ahead in the middle laps. This was all part of a carefully calculated plan for the 22-year-old. "The team told me to focus on the last part, which I did. I felt so strong today," Ronhaar explains.
"I actually had to hold back longer from the team, but I felt so good. I was immediately on the right track towards the material post and decided to go full over the strip once to see what would happen," Ronhaar continues. "I rode the laps firmly after that, but especially at that passage past the post I went full out each time."
As part of a Baloise - Trek Lions one-two, Ronhaar's teammate Lars van der Haar came second. After the controversial finish between the pair at the European Championships, there's no lingering bad blood Ronhaar explains. "We had a burger and a beer together after the EC. There is nothing going on at all, Lars is my best friend. Last night we were also in the same room again. We don't have any problems at all," he explains.
