“The crowds were the biggest I’ve seen... It was 100% worth it to get here.” A determined @Joshytarling fought through a crash and two punctures to ensure he made it to the Roubaix velodrome 👊 #ParisRoubaix | @GcnRacing
Joshua Tarling's participation in the Paris-Roubaix on Sunday marked a historic moment in the annals of cycling. At the tender age of 19, he became the youngest participant in the prestigious race since 1937. Though he was unable to finish within the allotted time limit.
"It was worth it," he told Eurosport after the race. He continues, "I fell and punctured twice, so I've done Paris-Roubaix now. It was super cool. It was nice to lead the first strips with Luke. Then we fell, so we had to chase to get back into the first group. In the following strips I got two flat tires.”
As he neared the finish line, he took a moment to bask in the enormity of the occasion, looking out at the sea of faces that had congregated to see the culmination of the race and expressing his amazement at the scale of the turnout. “It was super cool, I've never seen so much crowd. It was worth coming here. I'm tired, but I can sleep again tonight, right,” concluded Tarling.
