VIDEO: John Degenkolb and Mathieu van der Poel's Carrefour de l'Arbre incident in first-person

Paris-Roubaix is a race that often showcases surprises and riders who have the days of their career. John Degenkolb has won the race back in 2015, but long years after his career peaked he once again found himself in contention for a big classic. That came down at the Carrefour de l'Arbre where he crashed, and the clash with Mathieu van der Poel was recorded by fans on the road.

The German looked to ride through the small berm that is visible on the video. Ahead of him so did van der Poel, and Jasper Philipsen was also moving to the right. Not having enough space - with fans also packed on the side of the road - the veteran could stay upright, tumbling and visibly looking shattered as he saw his chances of winning slip through his fingers.
