Both Johannessen twins are currently undergoing health issues, but are looking to recover towards the 2023 season as they look to propel themselves into the World Tour in the years to come.
"I have struggled with my knee for a long time. It's a bit painful, especially when I'm standing and cycling,"
Tobias Johannessen said in a recent interview, as he spoke about the surgery he's set to undergo: "It is done very quickly. The doctor opens the knee, removes the fat pad and sews it back up. It's done in an hour. "
After a very strong set of season, he was expected to be a major contender at the under-23 World Championships, but was not able to make it to Australia. "It was crazy. I would have liked to have been there. The plan was for a long time that the WC was something I could bet against, but nothing came of it," he said.
He's likely to make a full recovery in the coming months and eye a strong campaign in 2023, following a year where he's led the Norwegian team, taking Top10 places at the Critérium du Dauphiné, Volta a Catalunya and Tour of Norway. He's also taken a win at the Étoile de Bèsseges, his sole triumph of 2022.
As for
Anders Johannessen the situation is even more complicated, as following a Covid-19 infection in May the Norwegian has started having symptoms and was eventually diagnosed with myocarditis. He's current off the bike, at least until December, when another evaluation will reveal if he will be able to resume training.
"This has been a tough season. The positive thing, even though I have struggled a lot, is that I have received good support from the team," he said. The duo will remain in the
Uno-X Pro Cycling Team in the coming year where they will team up with the likes of Alexander Kristoff.
