Jasper Philipsen's dominance at the 2023 Tour de France earned him the title of best sprinter in the professional peloton. This year, he has found new challengers in Tim Merlier and Jonathan Milan, but also in Biniam Girmay who has beaten him on three occasions at this year's Tour and won the green jersey classification on top.
2025 Tour de France starts with a sprint stage and Philipsen can't be eyeing for anything less than the first yellow jersey which awaits the fastest man in Lille. In case he were to succeed, he might have to hand over the jersey to his teammate the very next day as the uphill finish in Boulogne-sur-Mer could change Mathieu van der Poel's mind to participate at the Tour again, even though he hinted against it recently.
"This can be a Tour de France that offers perspective for our team. I am already thinking about the start in Lille. A chance to grab both the stage and the yellow jersey. A unique opportunity and immediately a big goal, I think," Philipsen confirms the ambitions in a press release.
"The rest of the Tour also looks good for me as a sprinter with maybe seven or eight sprint opportunities in total. These stages are not always the flattest, but that's not bad for us. I'll have to look at everything in more detail, but for now I'm happy with it."
