Jasper De Buyst disappointed to see his leader Caleb Ewan step out of Tour de France: "There is not much positive to say about it"

The thirteenth stage of the Tour de France was one of peaks and valleys for Lotto Dstny. While Maxim van Gils excelled at the Grand Colombier with a second place in the day result, the formation saw their sprinter Caleb Ewan step out of the Tour. Teammate and loyal helper Jasper de Buyst tells Sporza that he is very disappointed with the decision of his leader.

"I heard it through the grapevine. It is very disappointing," De Buyst responds to the news about Ewan. "There is not much positive to say about it. I didn't feel like it was of any use to him anymore. In the Tour you have to try to get through every day. That is why I rode 100 miles with him alone in the wheel yesterday."

The effort now appears to have been for nothing. Caleb Ewan will never make it to Paris. A missed opportunity according to De Buyst. "I am disappointed. I think that's not abnormal. I hoped his difficult day was over. It's still 2 to 3 sprints. I said we had to get through day by day. Now our chance of a sprint victory is gone, that's just a shame."
