Jack Haig abandons Tour de France for second year in a row after early crash

Jack Haig had ambitions to finish the Tour de France inside the Top5, but they were shattered yesterday in a roundabout in northern France as Haig crashed and subsequently had to abandon the race - in close resemblance to 2021.

The incident happened as Haig had resisted the mishaps throughout the day. It was the crash that saw Primoz Roglic, Caleb Ewan and Geraint Thomas hit the deck. Haig crashed hard and was the only rider forced to abandon as a consequence, with "multiple abrasions and bruises over the body and required stitches for a cut above the elbow," Bahrain - Victorious confirmed.

"CT scans also revealed multiple non-displaced wrist fractures. Fortunately, Jack had no concussion or head injury and will travel home tomorrow," it was said. Haig finished third at the Vuelta a España last year and was looking to replicate his GC success at the Tour where he was leading the team alongside Damiano Caruso.

After Gino Mäder failed to be at the start due to the effects of a Covid-19 infection, Caruso now finds himself in an isolated leadership spot - in 37th spot. Dylan Teuns, Matej Mohoric and Jan Tratnik will surely have the freedom inside the team to chase stage wins later in the race.
