In the seventh stage of the Vuelta a España, the national champion of Venezuela Orluis Aular came very close to the stage victory. The Venezuelan sprinter only had to accept defeat from even more surprising winner - Geoffrey Soupe - at the line.
"We keep trying," Aular says combatively after the finish in Oliva in an interview for Eurosport. The Venezuelan sprinter arrived just too late, but made it very difficult for Geoffrey Soupe. "It's a pity, because it was close. The last kilometer today was hectic. There were a lot of crashes and I often had to avoid riders. In the last kilometer I was ready to take that corner well. That way I could move well."
In the final, Aular still felt his legs from the previous day. The sprinter can also get back to work tomorrow. "Yesterday was a very hard day. A long stage with many altimeters. Tomorrow we will have another stage like that, but later I will certainly get more chances. Now I try to save some strength for the stages where I want to win."
