Italian champion Alberto Bettiol should join Astana next week on a mid-season transfer

In a desperate search for a source of UCI points, Astana Qazaqstan Team set their sights at the Italian champion Alberto Bettiol. With almost 1500 UCI points to his name in 2024 has scored the same amount as Astana's best three riders (Lutsenko, Scaroni and Velasco) this year combined. It's not hard to see why Astana were super motivated to get the Italian all-rounder on board as soon as possible.

Bettiol was previously thought of as a new signing from 2025 onwards, however Gazzetta now brings update that the Italian champion has in fact reached an agreement with his current team EF Education-EasyPost to leave for Astana before his contract with the American team expires. The official communication about Bettiol's mid-season transfer should arrive next week.
