Mads Pedersen on Jonas Vingegaard's start in Zurich: "I try to push him a little bit. I would really like to have Jonas with me at the World Championships"

It's been five years since Mads Pedersen's upset world title in the rainy Harrogate. Since then Denmark has been always in the mix for another big result, if not victory, but few things still need to connect to make that happen. Pedersen admits that having Jonas Vingegaard join him and his Lidl-Trek teammate Mattias Skjelmose for the climby race in Zurich would've made a thing or two easier. However, he admits, convincing the soon-to-be father for the second time to leave family behind and make the trip to Switzerland is not easy, if even possible.

"I have been in contact with him a little. I try to push him a little bit. I would really like to have Jonas with me at the World Championships," says Mads Pedersen to Ekstra Bladet.

"The route is insanely good for both him and Skjelmose. It would be great to ride the WC, where we have two such good cards for a medal. I understand that there will be a little new one during that period. I hope he will be there. I don't want to sit and guess whether he will or not. I just hope he will."

Jonas Vingegaard will be a father for the second time this autumn. He has therefore previously told Aften Tour on TV 2 that he won't have many thoughts about cycling when the family is expanded to four.
