“It seems that nothing is broken" - Soudal-Quick-Step not overly concerned after multiple crashes for Remco Evenepoel

On what was supposed to be a quiet day for the general classification riders at the Giro d'Italia, bad weather and rogue dogs ensured that Remco Evenepoel and his GC riders had a chaotically stressful day marred by multiple crashes.

Early on in the stage as the peloton was rolling on seemingly without concern, a stray dog ran out into the road and before Evenepoel could react the reigning World Champion was on the deck and seemingly at risk of abandoning the race.

Thankfully for both the Belgian and cycling fans in general, after a long period gathering his breath and composing himself, Evenepoel was successfully paced back into the peloton by his Soudal - Quick-Step teammates. Then with under 3km to go Evenepoel was once again left in a heap on the side of the road as for the second time of the day the visibly frsutrated former Maglia Rosa was involved in a crash.

“Tonight we will make a statement,” a press officer for Soudal - Quick-Step said to reporters following the end of the stage. “It seems that nothing is broken, but we will check that first."
