What a horrific stage! ☔️ What a magnificent end! 🏆 @kaden_groves wins stage 5 of the @giroditalia 💕
Thriving amongst the chaos of multiple crashes on stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia, Kaden Groves recovered from his own brush with the road to take a brilliant sprint victory.
“I surprised myself today. Not that it went bad this Giro, but I was seven kilometres from the finish when I crashed. I got my chain back on quickly enough and luckily the groups got back together," the Alpecin-Deceuninck sprinter who had already finished 3rd on two separate occasions at this year's edition of the Giro d'Italia revealed in a post-stage interview.
“The lead-out certainly didn't go smoothly. We lost each other a bit and the boys had to do their turn very early. Fortunately, I was able to position myself behind DSM and I had the legs to take on the sprint and win," continues Groves. "It's a dream to win here. I've been on this course since November. I want to thank the team, everyone involved. My teammates believed in me. After two third places earlier in the week, they took me to victory today.”
