🇮🇹 #Giro Wow, that were some dangerous final kilometres. Kaden Groves wins stage 5⃣. All our riders crossed the finish line. 🤞
On what was a day where it seemed like nearly all of the Giro d'Italia was involved in a crash at some point or another. Primoz Roglic was one such rider, thankfully though he is injury free and managed to safely finish in the bunch.
"It's all good, huh,” the Slovenian leader of Jumbo-Visma told Cycling Pro Net in a post-stage interview. “It could have ended worse. The guys did a great job getting me back quickly. After that, I was very lucky with that second crash because I was hit in the leg by someone who fell, but I'm happy to be here at the finish now."
Roglic's main rival for the Maglia Rosa, Remco Evenepoel suffered not one but two crashes on a truly chaotic day on the wet roads of the Italian coast. “I asked him how it went and he said it was fine. Fortunately,” Roglic revealed about his great rival's condition.
"He got the bike from Koen Bouwman and was immediately returned. Everything went well. After that there were crashes everywhere and then there were breaks in the peloton. We have to wait and see what is done by the jury, but it was in the last three kilometres," recaps Jumbo-Visma's sports director Marc Reef. “We know that these Italian roads are very slippery in the rain. It's important to be focused and keep Primož safe. That is the main goal, also for tomorrow."
