"It breaks my heart that my words where poorly chosen" - Tom Boonen apologizes to Colnago and concludes unhappy story

Tom Boonen and colleagues at the Wielerclub Wattage Podcast have commented on Colnago bikes, noticeably hinting at it being significantly slower than many bikes from the competition. This has led the Italian bike brand to publicly approach the Belgian classics legend, which has finally left Boonen to apologize for the statements.

"When I was a young rider I dreamed about one day winning Paris-Roubaix on a Colnago," Boonen shared in an Instagram post. "It's a shame I never got a chance to ride one of your bikes. To me Colnago stands for passion and legacy. So it breaks my heart that my words where poorly chosen when I responded to Dirk's (Dirk De Wolf, ed.) claims in our podcast."

It was said in the podcast that Tadej Pogacar could ride 2Km/h faster with a bike from several of UAE Team Emirates' rival teams. Colnago itself invited Boonen to ride and talk about the bikes in person in Italy in the days leading up to Milano-Sanremo, but the invite has led to an apology from Boonen who regrets the words chosen.

"#meaculpa (my fault, ed) I have nothing but respect for the Colnago family and their brand," he concluded. Boonen continues to be a vocal voice within the cycling Belgian community. Simultaneously, Colnago continue to experience success as Tadej Pogacar rides to dominance at Paris-Nice with one of it's bikes.
