Tom Boonen has recently claimed that Tadej Pogacar would be significantly faster on a bike from one of his direct competitors, and now UAE Team Emirates' bike supplier Colnago have directly replied to the Belgian in an open letter inviting him to ride and talk about the situation.
In a recent interview spring classics legend Tom Boonen has said that "if Tadej Pogacar gets on a Jumbo-Visma, Ineos or Soudal-Quick Step bike tomorrow, the rest won't he'll have no chance. On those bikes he'd pedal 2 km/h faster." Such statement was not as well received by the Italian bike brand however, who have released a statement on the opinion and invited the Belgian to ride and talk about it.
"The performances of UAE Team Emirates are a highest level priority of Colnago. Consequently, we have invested millions of euros and a lot of time in developing their bike," a statement was issues by the bike brand's CEO Nicola Rosin. The statement was followed by an invite to ride and publically talk about it in the days leading up to Milano-Sanremo. Not only Boonen but other guests that were present at the Wielerclub Wattage podcast where the initial statements were said.
"We work hand-in-hand with UAE Team Emirates and UAE Team ADQ, first to understand the demands they have for our bikes and then to ensure that what we are delivering is the absolute best available. We are of course in contact with the teams on a daily basis and, we have not head a single complains about the competitiveness of our bikes. In fact, they are ecstatic about the equipment we have provided thus far."
