Israel - Premier Tech's World Tour mission takes another heavy hit as Michael Woods crashed out of Vuelta a Espana

Israel - Premier Tech have had a complicated season in terms of injuries, and one of their leaders Michael Woods has abandoned in another of his main goals of the season, as he crashed out of the Vuelta a Espana today.

The Canadian crashed early on in the third stage and has suffered a concussion and multiple abrasions, the team revealed. Woods abandoned the race and will be travelling home to heal his injuries, leaving the Israeli team with seven riders left at the Vuelta, and without the riders who maybe offered the best chance of a stage win or even points from an overall classification tilt.

In the last UCI points update, Israel - Premier Tech were 258 points behind Lotto Soudal and 733 behind Movistar Team. A gap that is closeable, and Hugo Houle closed it slightly last week with a second place at the Arctic Race of Norway. However with Woods out of the Vuelta and with no expected time of return, the team is once again in a very hard position and in urgent need of points.
