Marco Haller outsprints Wout van Aert to win BEMER Cyclassics

The BEMER Cyclassics are frequently a race for the sprinters, however heads were turned this year as a late group succeeded on the attack, and BORA - hansgrohe's Marco Haller surprised to take the win against Wout van Aert in a direct sprint.

On the final ascents of the Waseberg broke, and a group of five riders went clear in the final passage with Marco Haller and Patrick Konrad of BORA, Wout van Aert, Quinten Hermans and Jhonatan Narváez. The group collaborated well towards the end, holding off the chasing peloton which finished very close to the quintet.

Patrick Konrad took the lion's share of the work in the run-up to the line, and Marco Haller launched his sprint first. Despite getting close, a very tight finale was had with the Austrian holding the lead against the sprint of Wout van Aert, and Quinten Hermans who completed the podium. Jasper Philipsen won the sprint for sixth place in the peloton.
