Sam Bennett seems to be back to his best level, at least similar as he rode into a second stage win at the Vuelta a Espana this afternoon with a dashing sprint in the green jersey.
Talking to reporters at the end of the stage, Bennett praised his teammate once again: “It was a masterclass from Danny [van Poppel]. It was very difficult to get into a good position today because a lot of riders were fighting for the right wheel. I was a little bit in jeopardy, which made it difficult to keep Danny van Poppel's wheel".
After a win on stage two, the Irishman had some confidence back, and he needed his best legs to go for it on the third day of racing. "It was a very difficult, nervous day because of the technical course. The many twists and turns made it a very tough race, while it was still doable in terms of power," he described.
Into the sprint however, Bennett was far behind the position he faced yesterday. However with a headwind, once again Danny van Poppel managed to bring the green jersey into the front of the group, and in the final sprint Bennett kept his speed the longest in what was a long duel with Dan McLay.

"I want to thank my team for their efforts all day long, without them I would not have achieved this victory. It is very special that I now win two stages in a row. This gives a huge boost to my self-confidence." Bennett concluded. Not only has he taken a win, but already piled on 117 points in the points classification, 37 over his most direct rival Mads Pedersen.
