Intermarché-Circus-Wanty's 19-year-old Estonian rider Madis Mihkels, has been rushed to hospital in an ambulance after being involved in a road traffic collision where he was hit by a car whilst on a training ride back in his native country.
Thankfully Mihkels's injuries don't seem to be too serious. Having required multiple stitches to fix up a 7-centimetre cut in his lower back seemingly the most major injury. Telling his story to Delfi Sport, Mihkels details how the driver of the car involved in the incident was remorseless in the immediate aftermath.
"He came to me, chased me, and said it was my fault. (…) He pushed an insurance slip under my nose so that I could write down my name and signature," the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider explains. "No guilt, no humanity. I was nobody to the driver. It was a sick attitude, completely absurd.”
Police have been contacted and both Mihkels and the driver will now have to go to the local station and make an official statement of how the events transpired. However according to Delfi Sport, the local police force already believe that "the statements of the driver and cyclist about the incident are contradictory."
Compatriot and fellow pro rider Mihkel Räim has also confirmed the incident in a social media post that read: "And weird thing is that he wasn’t even riding a bike while he got hit. His friend dropped bottle and went back to take it. Madis stopped aside of the road and was waiting him while he got hit by driver"
