- Yeah but there are too many better climbers in the Tour, if they have to they’ll make the difference there. Her 2nd place was already testing how much of “anything can happen” you can realistically expect, Van Vleuten ill, Borghini abandoned, the Dutch girls playing silly games behind Niewiadoma in the mountains. She’ll have to ask for more than all that, especially given this year is 20% longer and features way more climbing and altitude.
I wouldn’t say that climb is particularly hard, nor was the field she was up against.
- Partly true but you mustn’t forget, his experience with tire pressures from all the disciplines, his incredible handling and steering ability have hidden a lot of the “bad luck” that is attributed to others who may get more punctures because they don’t adapt to the conditions, fall more because they haven’t got the experience to steer or manoeuvre back to safety or stay cool when things get dodgy or simply the skill (e.g. right power dosage) to stay on their bike when practically every other rider is forced to walk. Not many riders endure more than one handlebar or steering break in their pro career, he’s come through 2 almost unhindered. Another thing to keep in mind is that because of his reputation and results we probably credit him for far more riding on the road than he actually does, if you would chart punctures/km he’d probably not be an outlier. Also, maybe he uses anti-puncture products others don’t?

How many would have been sold anyway just before the event. This sounds more like publicity to sell more tickets than a serious analysis of a WVA effect. Obviously HIS fans are now more interested in being present but has anyone else suddenly decided to attend because their interest in the race changed?
- While I understand his frustration, the last-minute nature of this isn't really relevant. The problem isn't the selection process, it's that Jens rides for a country with lots of outstanding riders. He is currently the 9th ranked cx rider from Belgium, and that is with Wout at 35th due to minimal participation. Disappointing for Jens, but the right choice for the team.

- He's a rider like Alberto Contador style that only wants GT. I know he can do La Fleche Wallone, San Sebastian and any other classics because he's a diesel motor when it comes to climbs.
- It would be fantastic to see another Wout vs. Mathieu battle at the World Championships, but given his current form and recent performances, it's hard to imagine anyone even coming close to challenging Mathieu this year.
- "Not a climber" !!!!!! One of the hardest climbs of the year is "Jebal Hafeet" and she crushed the field last year. Not the best but can hold her own against most and as we know anything can happen in the Tour.
