Officially, cycling transfers may not be announced until August 1, but that doesn't stop rumours from spreading. The latest outfit change could be as spicy as surprising with Julian Alaphilippe reportedly heading to the Pro Continental Q36.5 Pro Cycling.
WielerFlits has learned from multiple sources that Alaphilippe "recently offered himself to Q36.5 Pro Cycling". The Swiss ProTeam managed by Doug Ryder is in its second season. This year, they were mostly out-shined by the Fabian Cancellara's Tudor Pro Cycling in hunt for wildcards. However with a two-time world champion on-board, many doors could certainly open for Q36.5.
The 32-year-old Frenchman has been riding his entire professional career for Soudal - Quick-Step. In recent years, however, there has been some turbulence in the relationship with team boss Patrick Lefevere. Alaphilippe on a world-champion salary had been struggling to make the ends connect in races since his second title in 2020.
That was the case until this May, where at the Giro d'Italia, Alaphilippe once again reminded everyone of his class, when he took a stage win and a four combativity awards on top of it. After the Italian grand tour, both parties seem to have to sat down to discuss a possible contract renewal, but the outcome of these talks remains unknown.
