"I'm really happy with my form today" - Jonas Vingegaard shows no signs of weakness in opening stage of Tour de France

It was a crucial day for Jonas Vingegaard on this first stage of the Tour de France. The Danish leader of Visma | Lease a Bike was reassuring and reassured himself, finishing in the peloton, alongside all the other GC favorites without showing any signs of weakness.

"To be honest, I'm really happy with my form today," Vingegaard said after the finish. "Personally, I'm very happy with this stage. Of course, we're disappointed not to have caught the breakaway. Wout was really strong, he won the bunch sprint. It really is a shame for us but I think Wout and I were really good today so we can be happy with our performances," he summarized.

The 27-year-old Dane has thus successfully completed the first step on his road to Tour triple, but the main test is yet to come. For example on the fourth stage over Col du Galibier. "I can now focus on the next three weeks and be optimistic. I have the legs to compete in the general classification, but competing for the victory is something else and I don't know if I'm capable of that yet."

The second stage between Cesenatico and Bologna revisits the 2020 World Championships course. This promises potential for some fireworks among the big guns in the general classification. "I think tomorrow is going to be a very different day," confirmed the double Tour champion. ¨"It’s going to be more explosive, with short and steep climbs. It’s certain, it will be really different from today. But I gained confidence today and we'll see tomorrow how I feel. I'll do my best," promised Vingegaard.
