Team effort! She had to go deep, but @lorenawiebes of @teamsdworx wins stage 3️⃣ @VueltaBurgos @UCI_WWT
Crossing the line first on each of the first three stages of the 2023 Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, (although she was relegated to 3rd on stage 2), Lorena Wiebes has revealed she is backing teammate Demi Vollering on the as the race reaches its climax.
“I'm going all in for Demi," Wiebes says in her post-stage interview following her victory on stage 3. "Now it's my turn to give something back to the team."
As has been the case throughout the World Tour of 2023, Team SD Worx have been dominant so far at the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. In a thrilling finale to stage 3, Wiebes overtook the breakaway with less than 100m to the line. Although it looked like a close call to viewers, Wiebes was always confident.
"In the last meters I saw them lose some speed. At that moment Demi went full steam ahead. I started my sprint early," she explains. "I was able to use the leading group as a focal point. We worked very hard for this win. Everything that happened on the previous stage gave me extra motivation to win here."
