Steven Kruijswijk was predicted to be a massive part of Jonas Vingegaard's Jumbo-Visma train at the Tour de France. After crashing out of the Criterium du Dauphine though, the Dutchman was forced to watch from home.
"So.. since the 5th of June things went a little bit different than I hoped for," the vastly experienced 36-year-old reveals in a post on his official Instagram account. "Missing out on Le Tour de France but so happy and proud to see Jumbo Visma taking the yellow jersey again."
Wilco Kelderman replaced Kruijswijk in Jumbo-Visma's Tour de France team and Vingegaard was once again victorious in taking the Maillot Jaune. For Kruijswijk, the aim is now to return to the peloton as soon as possible and get back to racing.
"I’ve been working the last couple of weeks intensively on my recovery and I’m fully back in training on the bike as well," he concludes. "On the other hand, being at home with the family, made missing the biggest race of the year a lot easier!"
