"I’m devastated this is how my Giro ended" - Tao Geoghegan Hart reacts to disastrous end to Giro d'Italia

Tao Geoghegan Hart started stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia in third place and very much within a shot of a second Giro victory. The race is close to reaching the mountains, but it will have to do so without the Briton who has crashed out of the race this afternoon.

"I’m devastated this is how my Giro ended. Thankyou all for your messages and support," Hart shared in a Twitter message. "I was so excited about the remainder of this race and loving every minute of it. Arrivederci Giro d'Italia!"

In a seemingly innocent piece of descent in the midst of stage 11, disaster struck INEOS. A crash saw four of the team's riders involved including Geraint Thomas, and Pavel Sivakov who struggled to reach the finish and has been drawn out of the Top10 where he had so far ridden into.

Worst off however was Hart, who stayed in the floor for longer. After a few seconds, teammates abandoned the scene and it seemed clear what awaited the INEOS rider, winner of the 2020 edition. He has been carried in a stretcher to an ambulance, abandoning the race whilst possibly in the form of his life, and a brilliant spring. INEOS Grenadiers somewhat saved the day as Thomas seemed unscathed, but have without a doubt been the worst hit team out of a seemingly calm day in the peloton.
