We're gutted to see @taogeoghegan forced to abandon the #Giro following a crash on stage 11. The Brit will head to hospital for checks and we will have further updates in due course.
After giving his bike to Primoz Roglic following a dramatic crash, Koen Bouwman had to wait around for his team car. Tao Geoghegan Hart had also crash and according to Bouwman's first hand account, it looked serious.
“He probably broke his leg, he said. I was standing there because Primož Roglič had my bike so he could continue. At that time I had to wait for my new bike," the Jumbo-Visma rider revealed post-stage. "I asked if I could do something for him but he already said it was over for him."
After getting back on his bike and rejoining the peloton, Bouwman and Jumbo-Visma were on high alert for the remainder of the stage that was eventually won in a bunch sprint by UAE Team Emirates's sprinter Pascal Ackerman.
“There was a crash a mile from the finish that we were behind," says the 29-year-old. "But the 3 kilometer rule was there and it is therefore good that it is there.”
