Jonas Vingegaard finished second in Wednesday's time trial to his compatriot Mikkel Bjerg, which raised some questions about his form at the Criterium du Dauphiné. However, all those doubts were dispelled when he destroyed all his rivals in the fifth stage in a second-class climb.
The Dane took advantage of an attack by Richard Carapaz to leave the rest of the favourites and, when he considered it appropriate, leave the Ecuadorian completely broken and go alone in search of the stage victory and the lead of the race. Today, in the run-up to a tough sixth stage, he commented the following:
"I'm very happy to wear yellow, I'm looking forward to today's stage, I think it's going to be a very hard day, I'm looking forward to it," admits the Jumbo-Visma leader. "I think it's probably going to be a very difficult day, we'll see if it ends with a break or not."
