"I hope that teams will really race against Van der Poel" - Matteo Jorgenson hoping to capitalize from aggressive racing at Amstel Gold Race

Team Visma | Lease a Bike have relied on Matteo Jorgenson for their performances in the spring classics ever since Wout van Aert got injured. The American did win Dwars door Vlaanderen, but carries responsibility at Amstel Gold Race today as the team looks to forget the disappointing outcome of the monuments.

“I'm looking forward to my first Amstel. I want to give it my all, because it's my last competition of this spring," Jorgenson shared with Wielerflits. "I want to enjoy it and end it with nothing left in my legs. Today is a great opportunity to win with the team in our home country."

It is a lineup that does not have too much luxury, unlike what the Dutch team frequently presents in the stage-races. Jorgenson and Tiesj Benoot will headline the chase for a result in a race that will be hotly contested with dozens of contenders for a podium. Although this may be the least suited Ardennes classic for the American, he is certainly a dangerous rider.

"We have a good chance of that with Tiesj Benoot and myself. I hope that teams will really race against Van der Poel, with a lot of attacks in the final," he admits. "This way we can get rid of him.”
