Thibaut Pinot rode his last race as a pro at
Il Lombardia. The French cyclist finished more than 8 minutes behind the winner, Tadej Pogacar, but he was undoubtedly the most acclaimed rider of the day, as hundreds of his fans lined a bend at the end of the streets of Bergamo to cheer him on.
"It's over, it's been incredible, I haven't been world champion, I haven't been the best in the world, but I have the best fans in the world," he said after the finish of his final race as a professional cyclist on the road. "It's been crazy, it's been magnificent. My race has been complicated, I had to finish, I managed to do it with Rudy [Molard}, it's something symbolic and I did it. We're going to celebrate tonight."
