Wout van Aert is a rider who has always put a lot of focus on the spring classics and the Tour de France. Hence, it has become very hard to combine those ambitions with the Giro d'Italia, but Jumbo-Visma admit that a debut comes close and 2024 could be the year.
"Everything is possible, but it will depend on the season planning and how you prepare. He would like to, but when that will be, that is the question," Jumbo-Visma Marc Reef told In de Leiderstrui. "We will evaluate after this season and then we will also talk to the men about how they see next season. And how that fits into plans we have. He will certainly ride the Giro one day, but what year that will be."
Whilst the routes are yet to be announced; after two successful runs at the Tour where he's supported the team towards overall victory, together with several stage wins and a green jersey in his palmarès, it could be time for the Belgian to focus on a new goal. The Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana are both races that he has never raced, and 2024 could be the year.
Van Aert ends his season tomorrow at the Gravel World Championships, where he hopes to achieve a rainbow jersey, and a big victory - which he has been eluding this year.
