The widow of the late Davide Rebellin has paid a heartfelt tribute to the love of her life as Italian police are expected to release an arrest warrant for truck driver suspect.
"I can’t imagine my life without you" were Françoise Rebellin's heartbreaking words in the Italian newspaper Gazzettino. "Imagining my life without you is heartbreaking, the horror of what has happened is heartbreaking. Knowing that we’ll never hug each other, never speak again, never wake up together in each other's arms leaves me in pieces. You are my angel, my love."
A truly moving passage that puts into perspective the fact that whilst cycling may have lost an icon, the close family of Davide Rebellin have lost so much more. "Rest in peace, the peace you so deserve. You will always be in my heart, in my being, forever."
A 62-year-old German truck driver who is suspected to be the perpetrator of the hit-and-run is set to be issued with an arrest warrant by Italian police after multiple eyewitnesses testified to seeing the suspect emerge from the Volvo truck after the crash, approach Rebellin's body and drive off again.
