Soudal - Quick-Step's
Luke Lamperti has sprinted to the win on stage 1 of the 2025
Czech Tour. The American was totally dominant in the final sprint, emerging as clearly the fastest in the fight.
Six riders broke free from the peloton early on to form the day's breakaway. With the time gap already cut to just 1:15 at 50km to go though, the attackers' hopes of a stage win never really looked too great. Heading into the final 30km of the day, the break was down to just five, and with the peloton now well within a minute, the catch was imminent.
Michiel van Vliet of Metec - SOLARWATT p/b Mantel proved to be the strongest of the break, acting as the last man standing. When he was caught with 12km, you'd be forgiven for thinking the sprint finish was a certainty. Not all were willing to settle for that result though, and Iñigo Elosegui of Equipo Kern Pharma launched an immediate counter-attack from the front of the bunch, with the Spaniard clear by 10 seconds as he made it into the last 7km.
Elosegui was making the peloton ride so hard to chase him that small splits were actually happening in the bunch. The catch indeed completed though, and as such a sprint finish decided the day. In that fight for the line, it was Luke Lamperti who opened things up first and the Soudal - Quick-Step sprinter simply had no equal, taking the clear victory ahead of
Davide Donati.
