Jasper Philipsen has won four out of five sprints in this Tour de France, including all four flat ones. Alpecin-Deceuninck is taking full share of success in the Tour's bunch sprints whilst others reveal themselves to be frustrated with the outcome.
“I am really sick of this. I would rather finish 10th than second. Our patience is now being tested," Dylan Groenewegen said in a post-race interview last afternoon. "We have to keep trying. That’s all we can do. I think there are two or three more stages and we will fight until Paris.” The Dutchman has ridden to second place on the day following a very good leadout from Team Jayco AlUla, however it was not enough to go for the win as Jasper Philipsen snatched onto his wheel and then rode for victory - for the fourth time in 11 days.
The Belgian is also certain to win the green jersey if nothing out of the ordinary happens. The Tour has gathered an incredibly luxurious startlist of fast men but besides Philipsen only Mads Pedersen struck gold. The likes of Mark Cavendish and Fabio Jakobsen have left the race with crashes, whilst others have been left scrambling for minor results.
“It’s not frustrating that Philipsen wins - it’s frustrating that we didn’t contest for the sprint. Jasper has now won four out of four, which is nice for him, but I’m more concerned about ourselves," Michael Morkov, who was assisting Fabio Jakobsen - who has in the meantime abandoned the race - said. “I believe he can be beaten. He was beaten before. But as we see sometimes with a sprinter who is on a roll and has the confidence, he becomes even stronger.”
