Einer Rubio and Santiago Buitrago left the Giro d'Italia 2023 with a win each. The Colombians of Movistar Team and Bahrain Victorious, despite the little offensive tactics of their respective squads, knew how to take advantage of the few options they had to shine to achieve glory in some of the best summits in the world: Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Crans Montana.
As we said, Movistar and Bahrain played for the general classification and that caused the Colombian climbers to shine less than what they could have shone with their legs. Buitrago took half of the Giro accompanying Damiano Caruso who finished fourth with no real podium options.
Worse was to come for Movistar. Rubio managed to win in Crans-Montana and from there on almost discarded fighting for the mountain classification or for another partial victory. He played for the overall trying to get into the top 10 of the race, but had no chance against a far superior Laurens de Plus.
Thus, even though they could have achieved better results, Rubio and Buitrago left the Giro 2023 with a handsome prize money that we reveal below:
- Einer Rubio $23,930 (14th most accumulated)
- Santiago Buitrago $16,953 (23rd most accumulated)
