"He’s a top guy. I’m super happy for him" - Adam Yates full of praise for Eddie Dunbar after breakaway stage win at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana

The breakaway took the spoils on stage 11 of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana as Team Jayco AlUla's Eddie Dunbar fired to victory with a late attack in the finale of the day's racing.

Down the road however, attacks were also coming in the group of the general classification riders, with UAE Team Emirates' Adam Yates right in the thick of it, who crossed the line alongside the Red Jersey wearing Ben O'Connor, but just over 30 seconds down on the likes of Primoz Roglic and Enric Mas.

“Eddie Dunbar is a super nice guy and I’m super happy he managed to win," reflected the King of the Mountains leader in his post-stage interview after the day's drama had come to an end, full of praise for the Irish stage winner. "He had some bad luck this year, and also last year I think. He’s a top guy. I’m super happy for him."

"Today there was a really fast climb in the final, pretty much sprinting for 8 minutes. It was a tough day," Yates concludes, addressing his own legs on the day. "For us, we also have Pavel Sivakov in really good shape, so we’ll see what the next few days bring.”
