As the riders came across the line on stage 11 of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana, riders were strewn all over the road in different groups. In the front group of general classification hopefuls was Carlos Rodriguez, with the INEOS Grenadiers moving up the GC as a result.
Now up to 6th overall, Rodriguez has also moved into the White Jersey for Best Young Rider. “Both things are important," the Spaniard assesses in his post-stage interview after the conclusion of another dramatic day of racing. "Having the White Jersey is an honour for sure, but also moving up on GC was an objective."
Whilst he may still be 5:23 down on the race lead, Rodriguez isn't settling for the White Jersey just yet, instead keeping more than one eye on those above him in the standings. "Getting time on Ben O’Connor, so I have to be happy and confident for what’s coming the next days," he assesses.
"For sure, the main goal is to be as good as possible in the GC. If it’s the Red jersey it would be incredible, but it’s super difficult with the level of good riders we have here," Rodriguez concludes. "But yes, if I get the white jersey in Madrid, I would be super happy. I think longer efforts should suit me better, so I’m looking forward to them and I hope I can get a good result.”
