Guillaume Martin has won the Tour de l'Ain. He took the lead in GC with his victory in the second stage.
Martin was afraid his position was in danger as Pedrero was leading the race with over 3 minutes lead. "It was a big mathematical equation. It was very hard physically but also very hard tactically, with lots of gaps to different riders to think about, and then the bonus seconds to factor in,” said Martin.
"We expected the breakaway riders to not make it, but in the end, Pedrero just held on. We really had to accelerate at the end to come back and keep the jersey. He was really impressive. It made me count at the end." he told DirectVélo.
He concluded with, "We didn't want to leave too much margin to the breakaway riders. We did very well, without panicking. Everyone in the team was really strong."
