Guillaume Martin concluded the Critérium du Dauphiné on a high note, improving 7th place from penultiumate stage and crossing the line in Grenoble as 5th. This performance saw Cofidis rider move up to 6th overall as well.
"It shows that my form improved throughout the week because I am closing the race with my best result. I am gradually getting closer to my best. It's a very good way to finish this Dauphiné," he explained in the finish.
"It was very fast all day with the big breakaway of strong riders that had emerged. I was well protected by my teammates at the start of the stage, I was able to save myself as much as possible. Then it was everybody by themselves on the final climb so I'm very happy with the result in these circumstances," said Martin who was able to follow the best on the final climb.
"My Dauphiné's record is good. It's encouraging in terms of results, especially given my tough start to the season and with the Tour de France coming up," he concludes.
