Mark Cavendish has not been having a good time at the Giro d'Italia, with two crashes in the past two stages. Astana reports he has no serious injuries but both accidents were at high-speed.
“Mark is okay, he feels good. He has some new injuries on his right side, but fortunately no serious injuries," Astana Qazaqstan Team confirmed after yesterday's stage. The Manxman dramatically crashed at the finish line on stage 4, crossing the line off the bike but into a fourth place - as Alberto Dainese was relegated due to a dangerous move in the final sprint.
Yesterday into Napoli Cavendish was dropped in one of the early climbs of the day, and then as he and several of his Astana teammates chased back the peloton he was taken out by a gust of wind. Arne Marit, who crashed alongside Cavendish, confirmed saying that he "crashed in the descent because of wind who blow me away in the corner."
The Manxman has showed up at the start of stage 7 apparently unscathed of any major blow, and will continue to pursue an important stage win throughout the upcoming days of the race.
