Filippo Pozzato raises the bar of his ambitions. Capable of bringing the Giro del Veneto back to life, creating a very interesting and wide-ranging project like the Ride the Dreamland which also includes the Veneto Classic, as well as the Serenissima Gravel and last year also led to the organization of the first Gravel World Championship, the former rider confirms his desire to have an increasingly important role in cycling and aspires to bring an Italian team back to the WorldTour, perhaps by joining Davide Cassani which has the same intent.
"My dream is to make an Italian WorldTour team, but now it's very difficult to find the money for a WorldTour team," he admitted in a conversation with WielerFlits. "It's certainly not impossible, because I'm working on it. Next week, at the end of the Veneto Classic, I have a meeting with a large Italian company."
In any case, Pozzato's project will also have to initially move from the Professional category, however starting from 2025 because it now seems decidedly late for 2024, both on a bureaucratic and sporting level. "It's not possible right away," he explains regarding the possibility of entering the WorldTour immediately to GCN. "But every three years, unless you buy a license, but it's too expensive."
Should he succeed, it will then be clear whether the role will be compatible with the organization of events, even if it is clearly not yet something truly topical: "I won't know until this plan materializes," he adds. "However, fortunately, I am not the only one responsible for organizing these races."
