The famous former cyclist
George Hincapie has recently revealed that he has created a new professional team: the Modern Adventure Pro Cycling. The squad will be from the United States, directed by himself, and with the goal of returning the North American country to the top of the WorldTour.
Hincapie's plans are to license the team as a ProTeam for the 2026 season, and within a maximum of five years to compete at the Tour de France.
"I am very excited, nervous and anxious to embark on this project, but most of all, very excited to begin what we see as a renaissance of American cycling and build what we hope will be America's dream team to compete in the Tour de France, hopefully in five years or less," George Hincapie said at a virtual press conference.
The team, as mentioned above, will be registered in the United States. It will have 2 headquarters, one in South Carolina and the other in Spain, specifically in Girona.
We'll see how far this new project goes, designed to create a new American star to compete to win cycling's grand tours, leaving behind the dark stain of doping that plagued the country with the US Postal case. Hincapie was one of 11 cyclists who testified in the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) investigation against the team and his former teammate Lance Armstrong.
I think Hincapie can be a good candidate for a new US setup - I hope it works out for the longer run. Lance isn't allowed an official role in cycling, but who knows, he might ride in the back seat of Hincapie's car, behind darkly-tinted windows, helping out. I'm not quite sure if I have my tongue in my cheek.
