There were often critical voices about the organization of cyclo-cross races on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, although Sven Nys would like to gain more praise for the cyclo cross races in the United States...
"We have given our riders the freedom to choose whether or not they cross over to America. However, we do not support the expenses for the trip to Waterloo," said 45-year-old Bart Wellens, team manager at Circus-ReUz-Technord, in the context of the upcoming World Cup round of Waterloo.
Nys, team leader at Baloise Trek Lions, also made himself heard. "After Belgium, there is no country in the world where as many cyclo cross races are organized as in the United States. For example, in Wisconsin alone, fifteen cyclo-cross races are held every weekend. I would like to thank all the people who make that possible. They deserve that there is at least one World Cup race a year," he said.
"The World Cup is a ranking that we want to win with the team. That is why we are going with a large framework. It is a difficult task," honesty commands him to say. "Winning is good, second is break-even and from third place we suffer a loss. I think it is still worth it and I hope that there will be more competitions in the future," he concludes with an analysis of the costs.
