Fernando Gaviria is about to start his sixth Giro d'Italia 2023. The Colombian will, in fact, be one of the leading men of Movistar, a team determined to go above all in search of stage victories. Gaviria has already won 5 stages at Giro d'Italia in the past and in 2017 he also brought home the Maglia Ciclamino as winner of the points classification.
“I have good sensations after Romandie," said the Colombian sprinter in a press conference. "It was a difficult race. I trained well and I feel ready for the Giro. Initially I'll think about a stage, then we'll evaluate if I can aim for the Maglia Ciclamino. I feel quite good in the team: better than I expected. The team didn't have such a strong sprinter before: it was a risky choice for both parties, but I'm happy and I like the team."

The former UAE Team Emirates rider then also spoke about who he considers to be toughest opponents for sprints: “I haven't looked at the startlist, but I think that Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo), Pascal Ackermann (UAE Team Emirates), Bonifazio (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) and Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) will be difficult opponents: in all the races the level is quite high and Giro is even more difficult."
“I will try to finish the Giro especially this year as there is the arrival in Rome," concludes Gaviria. "The race always finished with a time trial, but this year there is one more reason to finish. However, a lot of effort awaits us and we'll see what happens on the road."
