Einer Rubio will decide along the way what his goals will be at the Giro d'Italia 2023. Runner-up at the Giro Under 23 in 2019, the Colombian has slowly estalished himself as a prominent GC rider over the past four years with Team Movistar. His first breakthrough result came in February, when Rubio took full advantage of hesitative peloton and won on top of Jebel Jais after a strong solo ride.
For Einer Rubio it is a welcome return to Italy, where he raced in the youth categories: “Italy has become a bit like my second home. I've raced a lot around here and it's nice to be back on these roads. The Giro is always tough and we have to see how things turn out. We have to overcome the bad stages for us, that is the time trials, and then we will see what we can do in the mountains.“

At first we'll focus on the general classification, then we'll see – added the South American climber – We'll see how things go. My preparation has been very good and I think I'm ready to race here." The 25-year-old also didn't rule out the possibility of fighting for the Maglia Azzurra for best climber: "It's always an unknown factor: we need to see how things go and who goes on the break".
In the end Rubio didn't want to say too much about the favorite for the Maglia Rosa: “The Giro has surprised us many times and maybe it will do it again this year. Remco and Roglic showed that they are at a great level, but we can expect a surprise".
