Elisa Basamo "Winning is never boring" after victory in fifth stage of Giro d'Italia Donne

Elisa Balsamo won the fifth stage Giro d'Italia Donne. The world champion was the fastest rider to cross the finish line of the fifth stage held on Tuesday.

“Winning is never boring!. Each success is built differently, has its own story, and carries its own peculiarities and emotions. We studied today's stage very well, especially the last kilometers. The goal was to take the last corner in the lead because we knew it would be decisive," said Balsamo. "I went into the last corner in the wrong gear and lost a little speed before I could get going again, but I was able to correct in time and sprint at my best."

She also praised Charlotte Kool. "I think it was a good sprint and a nice challenge between top sprinters like Vos, Consonni, Bastianelli, and, particularly, Charlotte Kool. She is a strong rider, one of the fastest riders in the peloton. I know her well. She can't often sprint because she is an important lead-out for Wiebes."

Elisa Balsamo is participating in Giro for the first time and has already secured two stage victories. When asked about how she feels about her debut, she said, "My balance sheet in this Giro is positive. It was my first participation, and I couldn't ask for more. I am really happy. Also, today my team did a super job of putting me in the best position and I am super happy to repay their efforts. I dedicate my success to them."
