Elisa Balsamo secures another stage victory in Giro d'Italia Donne

Elisa Balsamo has secured another stage victory in the Giro d'Italia Donne. The world champion was the fastest rider to cross the finish line of the fifth stage held on Tuesday.

Matilde Vitillo (Bepink), Giorgia Bariani, Iris Monticolo, Hannah Barnes, and Latvian champion Anastasia Carbonari (Valcar) were part of the breakaway at the start of the stage and created a distance of five minutes.

Peloton caught up to the breakaway riders seventeen kilometers before the finish line, and Italian rider Bariani made another attempt to distance herself from the peloton. However, her attempt remained fruitless, and at four kilometers from the finish, the peloton caught her.

Elisa Balsamo started the sprint with Charlotte Kool counterattacking her. Elisa narrowly won the sprint while Kool had to satisfy her with second place, Marianne Vos finished third behind them.
