Lidl-Trek have secured a major boost to their future with the news that
Jonathan Milan has signed a long-term contract extension, keeping him at the team until at least the end of 2029. The Italian sprinter has been one of the breakout stars of the last three seasons, and has made an immediate impact since joining the team in 2024. He won the points classification at the Giro d’Italia that year and has gone on to establish himself as one of the peloton’s most formidable fast men. His debut Tour de France this summer confirmed that status, with two stage wins and another points classification jersey.
For Milan, the decision to commit long-term was about more than just results. “We have already shared some incredible moments and I am really proud of what we have achieved together so far: multiple Grand Tour stage victories, leader’s jerseys, and always fighting together as one Team,” he explained.
“Lidl-Trek really has become my home, so it felt like a natural decision to extend my contract until the end of 2029. The commitment Lidl-Trek has shown to me and the support and confidence they give me as I continue to develop as a rider keeps me motivated for what’s still to come.”
Lidl-Trek General Manager Luca Guercilena was equally enthusiastic about Milan’s future. “Before we signed Jonny in 2024, we already knew he was a huge talent for the future, but in the two years since he has surpassed even our high expectations,” Guercilena said.
“Jonny has integrated seamlessly with the Team, and together with his leadout train he has created one of the most effective sprint set-ups in the peloton. What he has achieved in just two seasons is remarkable, and with four more years to come we are excited to see just how high he can climb. His raw power and finishing speed are extraordinary, but equally impressive is his humility and the way he values his teammates. We are proud to continue this journey with him and confident that even greater victories lie ahead.”
With Milan’s contract settled and Mads Pedersen already tied down on a lifetime deal earlier this year, Lidl-Trek have secured the services of two of the world’s best riders for years to come. For a team with ambitions of dominating sprints and classics, these renewals provide both stability and the promise of even greater success in the near and distant future.
