Egan Bernal reaches closer and closer to his top level, and in a recent interview he has talked how his recovery is doing, aswell as revealing a project that he has been working on in the past few months.
In an interview with BiciPro, he's talked about the launch of the Egan Bernal project, a social and sporting project which is set to take in young Colombian cyclists with the ambition of developing further the sport within the country. "In intensive care I thought that sometimes we give up doing things thinking we will do them later. I wanted to do something, a project, but I wanted to do it later… A Gran Fondo, a clothing brand or something like that. And I always said: 'I'll do it later'. Instead it was almost too late, I was about to die without having done anything," he said.
He's said that he wanted to make the official presentation before he left Colombia to return to Europe to reconnect back with his team and continue his rehabilitation after the crash - just over three months ago - that almost cost him his life. He added: "I was waiting for this project. I told them that I didn't want to leave without doing the presentation first. So they gave me permission, they had patience. So I think that next week I will return to Europe to resume training and continue with recovery."
As for an update on his situation, he jokingly adds that "I would like to walk without a cane, even if I like it and it seems almost elegant, but it would be nice to walk without it."
"And being able to stay on the pedals without any discomfort. I think these two things would be very good," he concluded.
