EF Education-EasyPost are up until this point of the season the team that has gathered the least UCI points. One of their leaders, Magnus Cort Nielsen is returning from injury, and is eyeing a debut in the Giro d'Italia where he will be seeking form and stage wins.
In an instagram post, the EF Education-EasyPost rider has said that "both bones are healing as they should, there are still not on 100% strength yet, but strong enough that I can start racing soon." This is referring to a crash in the final day of Tirreno-Adriatico that led to a broken collarbone and trapezium. He's had a month to recover in the meantime, and gather some form which he should be bringing towards his return at the Giro d'Italia.
I have had my eyes fixed on being ready to race the Giro for many weeks now. And it looks promising now with the body healing as it should and I am also getting my self into a shape where I can race," he added. "The focus has been on building on the base and then I have to ride my self into the last bit of top shape during the race, which I proved I was capable of during the vuelta 2020 where I had COVID not long before the race."
With a win at the Tour de France and six at the Vuelta a España, he also looks to get himself on the list of riders to have taken wins at all Grand Tours this coming month. "It is a race that I have been wanting to do for many years, but it has never fitted in well in my calendar before. And of course I have a dream of winning a stage in the Giro to complete the trilogy. And for the Danish fans I have not forgotten that the tour starts in Copenhagen this year," he concluded.
